Her Final Voyage
The stark beauty of the mountains in Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland forms the background to this piece as the fisherman contemplates the end of the season, sorting tangled lines out and putting away the jumbled gear. For this boat, this will be her final trip fishing in these cold waters. I wanted to convey a narrative about coastal communities relying on fishing in this piece. The sea, a constant backdrop, remains unchanged, yet it accommodates human fishing activity. The cool blue tones of the sea juxtapose and contrast with the vibrancy of the man-made objects, creating a sense of this delicate balance.
