This was a farm up in Virginia. It was overcast and normally I am drawn to sunny days. But the cows were so peaceful and the colors of there black and white spots with the cool greys of the landscape inspired me to paint this scene.
I used the indirect method of oil painting. First laying in a thin under painting in raw umber and letting it dry fully then worked with glazes to more layers on top. layers
