I painted this almost in a trance, after having spent four glorious days in Provincetown, Massachusetts, at the tip of Cape Cod. I took lots of photos but this one, from a dune tour we took, really captivated me. I wanted to show the majesty of the sky atop the remarkably stark landscape of sand and brush. I painted it in oil on linen panel in about two hours, and just adjusted it just a bit the next day.
