"Retreat" depicts 2 elephant cows, viewed from above, protecting an elephant calf. Shafts of yellow light shine on them from all sides, causing confusing shadows. The light represents people, encroaching on wilderness, and forcing the elephants to retreat as far as they can into darkness. I used multiple layers of fluid acrylic on watercolor canvas to create this painting.
