At the first sight of this waterfall I remembered a Chinese Ming Dynasty painting, 'Rocky Landscape' of the 16th century by Lu Chih. The dynamic movement of the painting had inspired me for a long time. I wanted to use the bold design in my landscape oil painting. I painted my Turbulence on the spot because I wanted to capture the authenticity of the dynamic natural movement. The river, Tottabetsu runs in Hidaka national park in Hokkaido Japan.
