Jasper

Pastel on UArt 800 Sanded paper.
Jasper was inspired from a photo I took this Summer near Jasper, Alberta while travelling and visiting family and friends in northern BC and Alberta. I took the photo for this piece and started the pastel before the devastating fires in and around Jasper, Alberta and finished it just after 30% of the town had been destroyed by fire. This momma bear had been eating dandelions with her two cubs in a grassy area. At the sound of my zoom lens adjusting the cubs ran and hid in the bush close to the open area they had been in with their mom. Momma Bear however was unfazed by me watching at a distance and she continued to eat, all the while being attentive to her cubs. Her far ear is turned in the direction of her cubs.
