Still Standing

This abandoned Midwest farmhouse stands quietly in the frozen landscape. Snowfall covers vegetation leaving only the tips and ragged structures of nature and man. Strong values are used to create recessed areas in the dark windows and highlights of light on the house. The rest of the composition takes on abstract shapes and design using strokes of color and linear suggestions of grasses, wire, and small tree branches. My favorite areas are the dark to deep purple windows that also have a touch of cad blue stroked on their surface to give the empty spaces life and a controlled vibrancy. Pastel is my favorite medium for snow with the strokes that can layer colors that create a luminosity to the snow.
