Untitled Backyard Dusk

Untitled Backyard Dusk
It was evening during mid-June and I went outside just to be in it. As the sun set deeper, the trees in my neighbors yard gave the impression of setting themselves, sinking deeper into the sky behind it; they appeared heavy with absence. I noticed my worlds increasing contrast as everything around me grew weighty shadows and seemed to protrude and lengthen while the greens, reds, purples and blues gave off life-filled pulsations as Nighttime woke up. It was truly that first night that inspired me but I went outside every evening for a week to finish the painting. For application I used my fingers, a syringe for the impasto roses and midground bush, and acrylic paint pens for the pointillism.
