Untitled Backyard Dusk
It was mid-June and I had gone outside just to be in it. As the sun set deeper, the trees in my neighbors yard gave the impression of setting themselves, sinking deeper into the sky behind it; they appeared heavy with absence. I noticed my worlds increasing contrast as everything around me grew weighty shadows and seemed to protrude and lengthen while the greens, reds, purples and blues gave off life-filled pulsations as Nighttime woke up. It was that first night that truly inspired me, although I continued to go outside at dusk for the entire week to complete the painting. For application I used my fingers, a syringe for the impasto roses and midground bush, and acrylic paint pens for the pointillism.
