A Dash of Light
This painting was completed when I was visiting my friend at Laguna Beach. We were having fun painting all day until sunset. All of a sudden, the golden hour set in, and we were about to lose our light. I saw a warm dash of light shining on a rock in the middle of the ocean and knew I had to be fast. Luckily, having been painting all day, I was warmed up and ready to go. I quickly sketched out the form using orange, blocked out the water, and painted the rocks. In about 5 minutes, the light was gone as soon as I finished the rocks, so I took my time to add some water splashes and adjust the color of the water. I think the painting took me about 20 minutes, and it is by far my best piece. I felt really comfortable at that moment of painting. All I could think about was capturing the mood and scene. It was quite magical for me.
