In Due Season

In Due Season, Still Life
In Due Season
"In Due Season" (oil on linen) was inspired by a little Japanese plum tree we planted when we moved into our house. It was just a stick of a tree when it went into the ground. It took several years for it to get established, but now the crops are so abundant each summer. I was inspired by the reality that growth and fruitfulness require a lot of very hidden work. I painted this in a season filled will raising my children while also pursuing art and I felt very isolated and unseen. This painting was an encouragement to myself to keep putting in the time and hidden effort into my art life and I would eventually see "fruitful" results.
